Action Hero Team Two Moms is here!
Action hero might be going a bit overboard, but that's exactly how I feel lately. Super heroes fight crime, save the day, basically do the impossible and that's what I'm here to do. I have other blogs on here (small town gay mom, and weed is so gay) They are serving there purpose but for my new endeavor I needed a hole new page. If you cant tell by now I'm gay. Gay as the day is long, Gay as a rainbow, gay as in I like women. That's a very small part of my new blog but a huge reason why I'm doing what I'm doing. (did that make any sense?) My girlfriend and I have a beautiful family. A lovely two year old and plans to add another soon. Jessie (gf) is a planner so everything about adding another child to our mix needs to be calculated and all factors accounted for. So my job is to get all the facts together to make her feel as comfortable as possible in our long baby process. While I was checking facts on pregnancy and hormones and all that fun stuff I ran across something that made my heart shatter. In our state of Wisconsin two same sex partners cannot be legal parents to a child, which means one of us is in high risk of losing the child if anything ever happens to the "legal" parent. Now keep in mind there is paperwork protecting the other "caregiver" if such an occurrence happens. However two loving parents who go into the process of creating a child should both be legally entitled to the term parent. So my goal is to change all of this starting in my state and hopefully (gay fingers crossed) the entire country. Now I understand this is impossible (nothings really impossible) but I am going to start the ball rolling no matter what it takes. As a high school graduate with no real education on how to even start this this may take some time. Thankfully I have a support system that is outstanding and willing to help on my journey. So where to start? Ive started reading into state law regarding same sex rights and parental rights. Case law on other couples out there who have tried similar moves as myself, but honestly I'm at a loss on where to go with all my info I'm taking in. I hope as each day goes on this changes and I become moving in the right direction. One of my steps I am taking is writing a petition and educating people on my cause and hoping to get as many signatures as possible. I'm writing this blog not only to document my journey but to inspire others who believe in this to stand up and fight and help in any way they can. If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything as that old country song goes. So stand up and take my hand.
